04 May 2005: Farmers day at Ngcele.

The people of Ngcele witnessed a very successful Farmers Day on 31 March 2005. Farmers brought in a total of 1250 stock to take part in the competition that was conducted. Farmers Days are conducted regularly and through these events the knowledge of the farmers is further enhanced and they also provide the opportunity for farmer-to-farmer learning.

Teba Development's livestock project that was originally implemented only in Lesotho is now also conducted in the Eastern Cape. This project, that is conducted in partnership with the Ukhahlamba Municipality, is an excellent example of how Teba Development and its partner organisations, with their wealth of rural development experience, can partner with a local government to implement its IDPs and to contribute to poverty alleviation.

Dignitaries included representatives from the Provincial Department of Agriculture, the Honourable Mayor of Ukhahlamba, Mr Goduka and Mr Quluba from Siyatemba Mafama. We would like to thank Molatek, CMW and MDB for their generous prizes they provided for the best ram and ewe as well as for the best flock. A number of the Dohne Merino rams that were on display were also sold.
